MILLANDERING AND THE LOST WEEKEND
Friday
had proved to be yet another dismal day for the Loaf as he struggled
towards lunchtime and the sanctuary that large Vodka's and Coke can only
bring to those on the brink of alcoholism.
At the same time the Horse was only just recovering from an awesome Thursday night at the Beer Keller, located just off Trafalgar Square, followed by a late night at Tudors.
The journey back to Harrow Weald from Trafalgar Square had been a memorable one as it involved a lift in a huge articulated lorry driven by an alcoholic Norwegian driver called "Arnie".
Arnie was on his usual weekly trip to England from his home land via Harwich, and he had visited London for some rest and recreation.
The Horse and his fellow Beer Kellerite, Andy Jones had met him as he pushed his 7 foot bulk passed them to sit on an adjacent bench.
His humungous size took up 3 places and he was soon talking to Andy.
After sharing many pints of Hurlimann Swiss larger, the Keller was coming to a close, and as Colin Hindmarsh, the Aussie piano player from the Rising Sun on the Greenford Road, sprayed the audience with his huge water pistols, Andy was asked by Arnie if there was anywhere to go after?
Not missing a trick, Andy mentioned Tudors in Harrow Weald, and soon we were climbing in to the cab of his massive truck. After a hectic journey we arrived Tudors to drink more larger.
The night passed and soon it was 2 am and closing time. The giant Norwegian then drove Andy and the Horse home, and then drove his articulated lorry off in to the bright rising Sun .
The next day as the Horse came out of his hangover it was now lunchtime and a visit to the pub beckoned.
After a weary afternoon both the Loaf and the Horse were on there way home in preparation for a humungous session at the Mitre, and what was destined to become "the Lost Weekend".
To be continued when the rest of the week-end can be remembered...................................!
